2006 Season Preview:
Our three time track championship car is FOR SALE as we have a new chassis in construction at Canaday Brothers' Race Shop. It kills me to say that I will not be racing for a track points championship in 2006 due to the fact I had a major surgical procedure performed just before the season began. With my surgery rehabilitation complete and the June birth of my son; the current plan is to race the FOR SALE car starting in late July. I will race this car until it sells. We are preparing the FOR SALE car to run in the Multi Class with a 2003 Yamaha R6 on carburetors. The new car will be done late in the season and we plan to race it in the unlimited (Multi) class. I have HIGH hopes for this new car – it is basically the same as the car I have raced to 32 feature wins and three track championships over the last five years, with added cockpit area for the driver and a few suspension and brake system changes. It looks like 2006 will be ALL about preparing for 2007!
2005 Season Review:
When compared to our 2004 season (10 feature wins and the Sweet Springs track points champion) the 2005 season was a slight let down. We started out 2005 on a tear with six feature wins and three second place finishes in our first 13 races. Cap that off with setting fast time and finishing 5th at the NMMA Central Nationals and the season was rolling! Then the gremlins hit – we spun a rod bearing on our dyno-tuned engine in mid August and the replacement engine struggled to only two additional runner-up finishes and third place in Sweet Springs track points. At the end of the season, we found the cause of the performance problem with the engine (electrical issues within the fuel injection system). The engine problem turned out to be simple and I feel incredibly stupid to have struggled with it that long – chalk it up to a learning experience - if you use a Powercommander you need to read this so you don't make the same mistake.
All-in-all, not a bad season – We just didn't finish what we started! |
